Edible Arts Crazy Week

Let the edible madness begin!  The children have enthusiastically been researching fashion from around the globe and linking this with the cuisine from each country.  Now it's time to create!  Having worked together to develop a plan, they are then going to create amazing styles for the catwalk this coming weekend at the Edible Arts Awards.  The classroom has been abuzz with children furiously discussing ideas and learning the art of negotiation and cooperation, as produce ranging from licorice through to pasta is traded among the groups.  As soon as a new bag of marshmallows floods the market, the value drops dramatically. Please all come to our mid-term assembly on Friday 30th May to view these finished creations on the catwalk. Thank you to those mums - Jayne, Kirsty, Fiona, Katie, Saran and Kathleen for your patience and support.  We couldn't have done it without you.

Room 4 Writing - Week 2 Term 2 - Whats a Dad?

This week we have focused on descriptive writing.  We have written about someone significant in our family and what they mean to us.  Here are the children's ideas.

My dad is funny, amazing and fantastic. My dad sits on the toilet and plays on his phone.  My dad is big.  My dad does his best for me.  My dad cares for me.  My dad cooks tasty food for me.

Whats a dad?   A dad is a person who doesn't always listen to mum nag away and does the wrong thing like putting us to bed way later than he’s supposed to.  A dad is someone who does funny stuff like wear slippers into town just to make us laugh.  A dad is someone who loves you no matter what.

What’s a mom
A mom is an angel that cheers you up when you’re sad.  A mom is someone who helps you through frustrating cases.   A mom is someone who takes great care of you and you and your siblings if you have some.  A mom is someone who brought you into the world and gave you life that you should appreciate every bit of your life.   My mom loves me outstandingly well even if I make the wrong choices sometimes.

What’s a Dad
My dad is a fun dad. He argues with my nana.  And he knows too much information and he embarrasses me. When he goes on the toilet he stinks the house out.

What is a dad?
A dad is someone who steals the TV when i am watching it and turns it to rugby. A dad is someone who does awesome stunts in his truck because he loves his truck. He always lets me ride my motorbike and he will always love me no matter what.

What’s a dad?
A dad is someone who takes us to cool places when he is not being lazy and sitting on the couch watching TV. When mum takes two of us some where he chases us on the motorbike. A dad is someone who does exciting things with us and he has a very exciting job because he gets call outs and he gets to tell us where he went to. He brings a van with lots of cool gear. My dad is excellent. My dad loves me even when I make big mistakes

My Mum
My mum is someone who cares for me my mum works at Hohepa she works for the residents as well.  I love my mum but not when she had a bad day she cooks my dinner it's yum !  A few days ago she brought us a kitten CUTE! I said my mum love's me because she gives me stuff.  I know if she love's me or not because she hug's me and kiss's me .

What’s a Dad?
A Dad is someone who gets us stuff that mum doesn’t want us to have.  A Dad is someone who goes for bike rides all the time. A Dad is someone who gets bossed around. A Dad is someone who does funny stuff just to make us laugh.   A Dad is someone who doesn’t listen to Mum.  But I know that my Dad loves me just the way I am.

A dad is someone that watches TV and sometimes farts. A dad is someone that you can hug a dad is someone we can wrestle with. A dad is someone that puts your undies on my head. A dad is someone that winds up my mum. A dad is someone that he loves me and I do to if this is it I better tell you now his farts are really stinky. Don’t go too go close to him.

What’s a Dad?
A Dad is a person how cares and loves you.  A dad is someone who sits on his bed and reads. His job at home is gardening.  He is a person who sells stuff to plumbers.  He always takes me and Zac out to buy lego.  He’s is the best.

An amazing big brother is someone who teaches you things like basketball.  A big brother is someone who lifts heavy things. A big brother is someone you are lucky to have in your life. I love my brother and he loves me too.
He is the best brother I could ever wish for.  My brother’s name is Zack.

My dad works as a tractor driver.  He earns 20 dollars every hour. Every day my dad an mum have conflict.  My dad likes siting on the couch on his big bum. But my dad likes cuddling me. Most of all, my dad thinks I am the best boy a dad can have.

My dad is an engineer and designs robots that packs cheese in boxes for supermarkets.  My dad is someone who sits on the sofa and watches the rugby while mum mows the lawn. My dad is helpful and willing to help when he can. My dad is the best thing on the earth to me and likes hunting deer and ducks with me.

Wonderful Room 4

No bias, but apparently Room 4 is the best looking class in the school.  Here are some pics of the new upgrade.  With "Wonderful Words" being the topic this term, Dr Seuss seemed liked the logical man for the job.

Our "Wonderful Word Wall" which will enable the children to find synonyms (words of a similar meaning) to help them with their writing.  This will be constantly on the change as we move through the term.

We also have a "Word Tree" where children can bring new words they have learned and add them with a definition to the tree.  The children already have a real excitement for this and please use this enthusiasm as an opportunity to explore the joy of words/language with them.  This tree is for all languages so if you have a culture that is a part of your family, please discuss words that are significant to you and your family with your child and encourage them to add them to the tree.

Tom got the prize for the first word on the tree -
Jetsam - discarded material washed ashore.
Well done Tom! Keep them coming kids!

All the members of Room 4 have been released into an amazing learning environment.  A "school" within a school.  2014 is going to be an amazing and exciting year of learning.

Albino - A person or animal lacking pigmentation, usually white haired with pink or blue eyes.

Fingerling - A young fish about the size of a finger (usually a salmon or a trout)

Sam also brought some wonderful words he had encountered when ready 2000 leagues under the sea.

Phosphorous - something that glows because it has chemicals in it.
Phenomenon - something strange or unusual.
